Welcome Message

A Message from the Technical Program and Applications and Markets Committee Chairs:

Welcome to the 2008 Fuel Cell Seminar & Exposition (FCS&E)! The FCS&E Technical Program and Applications and Markets Committees look forward to seeing you in Phoenix at an event that offers an exciting opportunity to experience the latest developments in fuel cell development and commercialization. While this year’s program continues a tradition of technical excellence, it also promises an unprecedented opportunity to network and interact with industry and government representatives that are paving the way to fuel cell commercialization. Since its inception in 1976, the Seminar & Exposition has presented key technical information on fuel cell tech nology, markets, applications and demonstration results. In carrying out its mission, the Seminar & Exposition has been and continues to be the premier conference where one can get the latest information on new developments, technical research findings, and progress towards fuel cell commercialization.

This year’s conference, Fuel Cells for a Greener World, will continue to reflect the Seminar and Exposition’s increasing focus on education and outreach to the fuel cell end user community. In keeping with this year’s theme, our technical program includes presentations on the benefits of fuel cells as an environmentally friendly energy source. In addition, our Exposition Hall fuel cell demonstrations will highlight the important role that fuel cells can and will play as an environmentally responsible solution to meeting worldwide demand for clean energy. The Seminar & Exposition will kick off with an exciting international panel of plenary speakers from government and industry who will provide their unique opinions and insights regarding the state of fuel cell tech nology development, commercialization and emerging market opportunities.

This year’s technical program will again feature four parallel tracks that cover all aspects of fuel cell R&D, applications, and commercialization. Our high temperature fuel cell track will include sessions on solid oxide fuel cells, molten carbonate and direct carbon fuel cells, modeling, and operation on liquid hydrocarbon fuels. Our low temperature fuel cell track features sessions on PEM fuel cells including global overviews, hydrogen, portable fuel cells, and manufacturing advances. Our third track will focus on the broad range of fuel cell applications including research underway in transportation, stationary, and portable power. Finally, we are very pleased to continue our Pathways to Commercialization track that was introduced at the 2007 San Antonio conference. This fourth track will again cover public awareness and emerging markets, eco nomic considerations, government incentive programs, and manufacturing advancements and should be of particular interest to companies engaged in product development and commercialization.

Not only will our technical program continue to demonstrate the talents and research of international industry leaders, but our Exposition will also continue to make a mark at this year’s conference. With an expected 175 exhibitors, from Germany to Finland, from Japan to Arizona, from Taiwan to Sweden, and from the UK to Canada, this will prove to be the largest international contingency the FCS&E has seen! This will be your chance to meet and greet with the best of the international fuel cell industry. Learn about the latest research and products and make connections. Click here to take a look at our current list of exhibitors.

The Seminar & Exposition will also continue to offer several excellent educational opportunities, including our outstanding technical poster session, located in the exhibit hall and featuring research from all over the world as well as our short course series on Monday, October 27th. Short Courses will include Fundamentals and Manufacturing Technology, Impedance Spectroscopy with Application to Fuel Cells, and Fuel Cell Cogeneration Applications. As always, you’ll have the opportunity to visit our Exposition and connect with international industry leaders and learn about the latest fuel cell products first hand.

While you enjoy the activities that have made the Fuel Cell Seminar & Exposition one of the best conferences of its kind, don’t forget about the new features for 2008!

  • New to this year’s conference is the GreenHouse – our onsite demonstration area, located in the exhibit hall. Here you’ll have the chance to see how fuel cells can become part of our everyday lives. Manufacturers will show you how fuel cells can help operate everyday household items to large machinery.
  • Don’t forget about our Ride & Drive; it’s back and better than ever.
  • Also new this year is our Educator’s Day. Educators from all over the Phoenix area will be invited to learn about the latest fuel cell research and manufacturers will be able to open their doors to a whole new market.
  • Get out of the convention center and join us for our annual Industry Reception -- Whether it is a mariachi band or Hawaiian dancers, we know how to throw an Industry Reception.

The 2008 Fuel Cell Seminar & Exposition Organizing Committees are committed to our mission of educating and informing not only our conference participants, but the larger community of fuel cell related technical and commercial developments. By doing so, we hope to be a facilitator in identifying and accelerating emerging market opportunities that will ensure the commercial viability of Fuel Cells… For a Greener World

On behalf of the 2008 Fuel Cell Seminar & Exposition Technical Program and Applications & Markets Committees, we look forward to your participation in the 2008 Fuel Cell Seminar & Exposition.
