Student Award For Fuel Cell Research

The purpose of the award is to encourage and recognize exceptional students in the field of fuel cell related technologies. Dr. Baker was a pioneer in fuel cell industry, and was himself a recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship as part of his graduate work in carbonate fuel cells in The Netherlands. Selection from applications submitted will be based on quality of completed or proposed research work in a fuel cell related field.

The award will consist of a medal, a $2,000 monetary award and a complimentary registration to the Fuel Cell Seminar to present your poster presentation. The applications will be received and evaluated prior to the Fuel Cell Seminar and the award will be announced and presented at the Fuel Cell Seminar.

Funding: FuelCell Energy, Inc. will provide $1,000 and the Fuel Cell Seminar will provide matching funds ($1,000), the recognition medal and free registration plus travel costs (up to $1,000) for attending the Fuel Cell Seminar.

Recipient Eligibility: Currently enrolled graduate or undergraduate students pursuing research in a fuel cell related field. Applications from outside the United States are also eligible.

How To Submit An Application
Applications must be submitted either via email at fuelcell@courtesyassoc.com or mailed to Fuel Cell Seminar Awards, ATT: Molly Bartkowski, 2025 M Street, Suite #800, Washington, DC 20036. The Awards Subcommittee will select the winner.

Deadline for application submission: June 30, 2005

Selection & Notification: August 15, 2005

Award Ceremony: November 2005 Fuel Cell Seminar

All applications must include all of the following:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • 4-page synopsis of research performed and future plans in a fuel cell related field
  • Recommendation letter by a professor/advisor
  • Academic performance (courses taken and grades)

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Quality of Work and Results (based on 4-page synopsis in application package), including level of student contribution to the work accomplished (ability of student to answer questions at the poster/oral presented at the Fuel Cell Seminar)
  • Recommendation Letter
  • Academic Performance
  • Future Plans in a Fuel Cell Related Field
