2004 Fuel Cell Award

The Fuel Cell Seminar Award is presented annually to an
individual who has been an avid supporter of research, development
and demonstration of fuel cell technology. The 2004 Fuel Cell
Seminar Award was presented during the Plenary Session of the 2004
Fuel Cell Seminar to Robert Rose, Executive
Director, U.S. Fuel Cell Council and Breakthrough Technologies
Institute.
Mr. Rose is founding executive director of Breakthrough
Technologies Institute (BTI), the leading independent organization
supporting fuel cells from the perspective of their public
benefit. He is also founding executive director of the
U.S. Fuel Cell Council, the dominant trade association for
the Fuel Cell Industry.
Breakthrough Technologies is an independent
nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting advanced
environmental and energy technologies from the perspective of the
public interest. BTI's fuel cell education program, Fuel Cells
2000, was launched in 1993 and is internationally recognized.
The Breakthrough Technologies Institute is an
internationally recognized conduit for fuel cell and hydrogen
education through its Fuel Cells 2000 program. Fuel Cells
2000 is technology and fuel neutral, seeking only to
educate people about the family of fuel cell technologies and their
potential for society. Fuel Cells 2000 programs include
public education activities, monthly and quarterly publications, a
comprehensive fuel cell directory, a career center, resources for
science teachers, outreach to science museums, and many other
offerings.
U.S. Fuel Cell Council is the business
association for the fuel cell industry. Founded in 1998, the
council now has more than 115 members. The council is
member-driven. It conducts its activities largely through eight
working groups, chaired by member companies. Current working groups
include Government Affairs, Codes and Standards, Education and
Marketing, Transportation, Portable Power, Power Generation, Stack
Materials and Components and Sustainability. More information is
available on its web site, http://www.usfcc.com.
Mr. Rose is the author of Fuel Cells and Hydrogen: The Path
Forward, which proposes a public-private partnership to
develop and commercialize fuel cells and a supporting hydrogen
infrastructure. He has many other writing and speaking credits and
is a regular media source.
Mr. Rose was Senior Special Assistant to Secretary of State
Edmund S. Muskie in 1980, performing a variety of staff roles. He
