Day Trip

"Fuel Cell Power and H2 Fueling Station Tour"

*This tour is subject to change

Once again the Fuel Cell Seminar & Energy Exposition will offer a day trip tour as part of its festivities. The tour is scheduled for Thursday, November 13th, starting at 12:30pm and concluding at 5:00pm. We think you will find this year's tour to be of historical significance as we welcome the commercial introduction of fuel cell vehicles and significant stationary fuel cell power generation!

Participants will start the tour at the California State University of Los Angeles’ hydrogen fueling station where fuel is being produced by electrolysis and dispensed to zero emission fuel cell vehicles.  This will be followed by a stop at the world’s first hydrogen pipeline fueling station in Torrance, CA.  Then guests will be able to visit Toyota Motor Sales’ 1 MW Ballard proton exchange membrane fuel cell system that is being dynamically dispatched at Toyota facilities to reduce the cost of their electricity.

A short trip down the I-405 freeway will bring guests to another world’s first installation of a high temperature fuel cell that is tri-generating power, heat and hydrogen from renewable digester gas at the Orange County Sanitation District.  This innovative and synergistic concept for locally producing renewable hydrogen, heat and power was developed by the team of Air Products and Chemicals, Fuel Cell Energy and the National Fuel Cell Research Center with support from the U.S. Department of Energy, California Air Resources Board, South Coast Air Quality Management District, Southern California Gas Company, Orange County Sanitation District and others.

The final stop on the tour will be to visit the installation of a 800 kW solid oxide fuel cell from Bloom Energy at the Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Irvine, CA.  Upon completion of this tour, participants will be transported back to the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles, CA.

Cost: $70; Lunch will be provided on the bus
